BBC Books recently released the synopses for the the previously reported new set of three Torchwood novels. The books include Into the Silence, Bay of the Dead and The House That Jack Built. You can see all three synopses below;

Into the Silence
Written by Sarah Pinborough

The body in the church hall is very definitely dead. It has been sliced open with surgical precision, its organs exposed, and its vocal cords are gone. It is as if they were never there or they've been dissolved... With the Welsh amateur Operatic Contest getting under way, music is filling the churches and concert halls of Cardiff. The competition has attracted the finest Welsh talent to the city, but it has also drawn something else - there are stories of a metallic creature hiding in the shadows. Torchwood are on its tail, but it's moving too fast for them to track it down. This new threat requires a new tactic - so Ianto Jones is joining a male voice choir...

Bay of the Dead
Written by Mark Morris

When the city sleeps, the dead start to walk... Something has sealed off Cardiff, and living corpse are stalking the streets, leaving a trail of half-eaten bodies. Animals are butchered. A young coupe in their car never reach home. A stolen tugboat is brought back to shore, carrying only human remains. And a couple of girls heading back from the pub watch the mysterious drivers of a big black SUV take over a crime scene. Torchwood have to deal with the intangible barrier surrounding Cardiff, and some unidentified space debris that seems to be regenerating itself. Plus, of course, the all-night zombie horror show. Not that they really believe in zombies.

The House That Jack Built
Written by Guy Adams

Jackson Leaves - an Edwardian house in Penylen, built 1906, semi-detached, three storeys, spacious, beautifully presented. Left in good condition to Rob and Julia by Rob's late aunt. It's an ordinary sort of a house. Except for the way the rooms don't stay in the same places. And the strange man that turns up in the airing cupboard. And the apparitions. And the temporal surges that attract the attentions of Torchwood. And the fact that the first owner of Jackson Leaves in 1906 was a Captain Jack Harkness...

These three books are currently set for release on the 21st of May next year at the RRP of £6.99. These three books will feature Captain Jack, Gwen and Ianto and will join the other nine Torchwood novels which are out now.

DWM talks exclusively to the people responsible for Davros’ recent return, including Head Writer Russell T Davies and prosthetics expert Neill Gorton...

Was Russell tempted to use Davros’ revival as a means to finally reinvent and clear up some of his complex backstory, once and for all?
“I never really worried about tying his history together,” Russell admits, “except I was convinced he had to have a metal hand, because it was so clearly blown off in Revelation of the Daleks. So no, I didn’t do any research as such. I didn’t rewatch Genesis, because I wanted to act off my memories. Somehow, that seems a more creative state to be in. I did worry that we never had a proper explanation of his injuries, but then realised that Genesis never did that either, so it was good company to be in! Although I did write a sort of creation story…”
“There was one scene where you were going to see an explosion, and Davros was injured,” recalls Neill. “We weren’t actually going to show his face burnt and disfigured in its full gory glory, because it would have been just a little extreme, so I think you were only going to see glimpses of his head, with smoke rising, and his hair burnt off...”

Torchwood Action Figures Review

Simon Holmes, Manager of The Television & Movie Store in Norwich, part of the SciFiCollector family of outlets has made a review for the Torchwood action figures. You can read the review below;

Wave 1

The photos we have all seen are a good representation of the actual figures. Like all figures, I found that seeing them ‘in the flesh’ is a far more exciting experience that looking at pictures online. The articulation does not spoil the figures in any way, and is in fact appropriate to the figure – i.e. the articulation on Gwen is subtle, the Weevil has ball jointed shoulders that bulk him up etc.... Jack and Gwen are as good as everyone hopes they are going to be: well designed, articulated, and decorated. Jack has his Webley, Gwen has a Torchwood handgun. I know lots of people have reservations about both the Cyberwoman and the Weevil. I think anyone who has doubts will benefit from seeing these figures ‘in the flesh’. The Cyberwoman design and execution is a lot more subtle than a lot of people think, and the Weevil looks good with his dirty boiler suit and hunched posture – the articulation on him does allow him to be stood straight if you should wish. The bases for all four figures are black hexagons with a red Torchwood 'T' on them... The packaging I saw is totally unique, however I understand that some changes are being made, so there's little point in my commenting on it...

Wave 2

Remember how great you thought Captain John was when you saw the picture of him? Times that by three, for Ianto, Tosh and Owen. These figures are spot on. Ianto is dressed in black suit with red shirt and tie (black?). Tosh has her long brown coat and jeans, and Owen is dressed in leather jacket and jeans with red/pink shirt. Sculpts on all three of these are, in my opinion, super. I don't think anyone will be disappointed. All were equipped with Torchwood handgun. Captain John is better than the picture you have seen, wonderfully detailed, and if I remember correctly, looks to have more of a James Masters ‘smirk’ on his face that the image shows.

The first wave of Torchwood figures are due to hit the shops later this month whilst the second wave of figures are expected to be released later this year. You can see the wave one figures and two of the wave two figures at the top of this post.
