Tom Baker Would Return to Doctor Who

image

Tom Baker has revealed that he would be interested in returning for a special reunion episode of Doctor Who if he was allowed to have a say in the episode script. Tom Baker said: "They should actually try and do something like that and they should get a nice jolly script with them. I don't know what it will be like and they haven't approached me yet and I'd want to have some say about the script. I think it is quite difficult now to surprise an audience with special effects, you may please an audience, but visually you can't actually amaze an audience can you? In a sense you just watch them trying, but if people can appear and disappear and walk through walls and disappear and then carry on fencing or kissing girls, that amazes me. Of course they didn't do that in my days, and I don't want to be a reactionary old fart about that but in my days, it never occurred to me to try and kiss a girl.” The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which is out now, includes an interview with Tom Baker, and it reveals that he will be returning in new Doctor Who audio stories. You can read more about his return in the Doctor Who audio stories on the official Doctor Who website here.

Doctor Who Magazine Issue 411 Press Release

Today issue 411 of Doctor Who Magazine was released in good magazine shops across the UK and Ireland at the price of £3.99. This months issue features Tom Baker who played the 4th Doctor on the cover. The press release for the magazine was released today and can be viewed below.

TOM BAKER TALKS EXCLUSIVELY ABOUT PLAYING THE FOURTH DOCTOR AGAIN – IN DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE #411!

He’s back! The jelly-baby munching, boggle-eyed bohemian puts on his long scarf and floppy hat once more, as the legendary TOM BAKER returns to the role of the Fourth Doctor for the first time in over fifteen years! DWM talks exclusively and in depth to Tom about what made him come back to the role that made him famous, what he thinks of Doctor Who today and whether a meeting with the current Doctor could be on the cards. Tom also tells us what he thinks about these modern Doctors kissing their companions...

“Well, I don’t know how I would’ve done it,” Tom considers. “I suppose I would have made it extremely funny. Especially if I’d rescued the girl, and she’d kissed me, I would’ve been able to be absolutely astounded that she was pressing her lips on mine, thinking, ‘Oh, that was rather nice’ and then saying, ‘Would you like to do that again?’” He laughs. “But I don’t know. It was inconceivable during our time. We didn’t think like that. I played him entirely… I never did handle the girls. Or if I did handle the girls, I always did it clumsily, because I reasoned that the Doctor wouldn’t know about that.”
