Benedict Cumerbatch To Play The Master?

According to a report from The Express, Benedict Cumberbatch will play the role of the Master in the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. Benedict Cumerbatch rose to fame when he won the role of Sherlock Holmes in Steven Moffats BBC adaption. Although he ruled out the possibility of playing a future Doctor, he seems open to play another character.
It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” The Express were told. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’.

Eve Myles: "Nothing’s Going to Happen in 2012"

Eve Myles was interviewed by CultBox.co.uk regarding the future of Torchwood, and finally we have word on what's going down with Torchwood in 2012. And that is nothing. Eve remains hopeful for some sort of conclusion to Torchwood: "Who knows what will happen in 2013. Maybe a movie, to kinda draw a line under it." See an extract from the interview below:
What’s the latest you’ve heard on the future of Torchwood?

"As far as I know at the moment, everything’s still very much on hold. Russell [T Davies] has things happening in his personal life.


"John [Barrowman] is very much on the same page as me, in that if and when they need us, they can just pick the phone up and we will be there before they’ve even put the phone down, because it’s something we love doing.

"Nothing’s going to happen in 2012, I know that much for sure. But who knows what will happen in 2013. Maybe a movie, to kinda draw a line under it.

"That’s the thing about Torchwood, every series we’ve changed our format. We’ve always had a gap in between, so fingers crossed, because we’ve got such an outstanding loyal fan base. They deserve Torchwood to go ahead with something else to draw a line under it, for the fans to have a bit of closure.

With the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who coming up next year, would you be up for returning as Gwen for that?

"Um, I said something at one of these conventions and the press kinda jumped on it: “EVE MYLES THINKS BEING INVOLVED IN THE 50TH ANNINVERSARY OF DOCTOR WHO IS INAPPROPRIATE.”

"Now, this has come across wrong and I want to get this out that I didn’t mean it like that! What I meant was that the direction we were taking with Torchwood was very violent kind of storylines. The characters were going through certain narratives that are pretty hefty and adult. What I meant was that it’s difficult for a character to do those kind of scenes then do Doctor Who, which my niece and my nephews watch. And I would never let them watch Torchwood!

"It’s a difficult crossover. It works with Captain Jack because John does it beautifully. If I was asked it would be an absolute honour to be involved with something as huge as Doctor Who again.

"We were born from Doctor Who and we will be eternally grateful to the mothership. And I always say that and that never gets printed! If I was involved, I’m sure it’d be a wonderful thing but there’s been no phone call or no talk about it so I doubt very much that I will be involved, but I’d be honoured."
Eve Myles also talks about her upcoming role in the play "All New People" here. The play opens in London on February 22nd.



Sylvester McCoy & Sophie Alred Talk 50th Anniversary

Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Alred, known to Doctor Who fans as the 7th Doctor and his companion Ace, shared their thoughts on the 50th anniversary with Shadowlocked. Sophie Alred also revealed that Russell T Davies was planning to bring Ace into The Sarah Jane Adventures! Watch the interview below:





STEVEN MOFFAT TALKS HIS DOCTOR WHO FUTURE

Steven Moffat recently spoke to The Scotman about his future on Doctor Who, Series 7 and the Doctor Who Movie.

On his future on Doctor Who he said that he has no leaving plans set in stone:
“I genuinely haven’t got a plan, except I’ll probably have to stop at some point or I’ll die. And dying would be bad. But my main concern is not so much how long I do it, but that I absolutely, definitely am going to be handing it on to somebody else. I want it to be in great shape, and some day I want somebody else to come in and knock my socks off with what they do with it. You don’t want to be the last person in the relay race, do you?”
Regarding the move to Autumn for the show, he said:
“It’s done very well in the summer, it’s not like we’ve ever suffered from it, but it’s almost like an aesthetic thing. If you’re having to close the curtains so you can see the screen, that’s not a good time to be watching a show that’s largely about tunnels and torches. I think it’s a show you watch in the dark.”
He also revealed that the 50th Anniversary plans are in the "early stage" and nothing has been "set in stone":
“Why talk in the singular? Again, genuinely, the plans are at an early stage, but we have some very clear ideas about some of the things we’re doing, and I think Doctor Who fans and kids will think it’s the best thing ever. We’ve got a load of very big plans – the mere fact that we’re talking about this two years before the event should tell you how seriously we’re taking it.”
We reported earlier today that he claimed David Yates' Doctor Who Movie was "imaginary", and he has again blasted these claims as inaccurate:
“It’s completely inaccurate! There’s nothing there. I mean it would be lovely, yes. If anything, the only good bit about this is that it might actually focus our minds on thinking that we actually should do a film. But to state the bleeding obvious, it’s not going to be a different version of Doctor Who with two different Doctors at the same time. Of course not, we’re not that silly. That would be no way to run a franchise, would it? I’d love it to happen, but that version you heard was just a guy getting cornered on the red carpet and not really being on-message.”

NEIL GAIMAN WANTS 11 DOCTORS FOR 50TH

Award-winning author, and writer of "The Doctor's Wife", Neil Gaiman has revealed his dream story for the 50th anniversary. Speaking to BBC America, the author said there is only one story that he wants, but it's the one story that is not possible to do, and that is the 11 Doctors in one special.
"The trouble is, the real dream story, that would be the 50th anniversary show, is the one that you cannot do, because technology is not there and people have died. It would be The 11 Doctors. They made The Three Doctors, they made The Five Doctors. It's the 50th anniversary."
He also reveals he think the actors COULD be re-cast, but doesn't think it should happen because it wouldn't work.

PETER DAVISON TALKS 50TH ANNIVERSARY

image5th Doctor actor Peter Davison spoke to BANG Showbiz about the possibility of returning to Doctor Who for a multi-Doctor special for the upcoming 50th anniversary. He doesn’t seem to have faith in the idea however, see what he had to say below:

“I feel no need to turn my back on it, but I don’t feel like it’s the kind of thing they’d do, I’d be very surprised if they tried to do anything involving the old Doctors because it always takes a slight stretch of the imagination anyway to figure out why the previous Doctors look older, but I’m sure that can be done.”

“But at the same time I’m not sort of longing on it. I’m perfectly happy to have played my part to go back to ‘Time Crash’. I don’t feel like I’m hanging on a phone call from the ‘Doctor Who’ offices saying let’s do something special.”

“Unfortunately, there are less and less Doctors around to bring back. Maybe I can be in it without never having do any work and just turn up so they can take my image. Maybe the characters can into a computer and become animations -- that would be good. It could be like ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘The Simpsons’ or something.”

MATT SMITH WANTS 3D 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Matt Smith has revealed how he would love the 50th Anniversary in 2013 to be shot in 3D!

He told BANG Showbiz: 
"I love making 'Doctor Who' and I get to be part of that 50th year which they'll do something mental for. You know it will be brilliant. I'm interested in all the 3-D stuff. If it could be filmed for 3D TV that would be fun, especially with 'Doctor Who', but it's very expensive. I don't know how they'd do it."
 He also insisted he was never worried about his future as the Doctor, saying:
"For me, it's just that I know that I'm going to shoot 14 episodes, of which I'll be in all of them. How they'll actually schedule it, I don't know. But all I know is that we start in February."

50TH ANNIVERSARY: YOU WANT....DAVID TENNANT!

Over the last few weeks you have been voting in our Tardis Base Poll for which Doctor (alive) you want to see return for the 50th Anniversary.

It may come to no surprise that David Tennant, who played the 10th Doctor was the most popular with 134 votes.

He was followed by Christopher Eccleston with 91 votes, then Tom Baker with 84 votes, Peter Davison with 75 votes, Paul McGann with 70 votes, Sylvestor McCoy with 56 votes, and in last place came Colin Baker with only 46 votes.

Do you think any of these actors will pick up the TARDIS keys once more for the 50th Anniversary?

STEVEN MOFFAT: "50TH ANNIVERSARY HUGE!"

Steven Moffat recently spoke to TV Line and said that 2013 will be a huge year for fans of Doctor Who.

"I've got various plans, but all I can say emphatically is it will be huge. There's lot of decisions we're making that are about making all that possible. It'll be amazing."
He also said that it won't be just a one-off special.
"It won't be just one thing, we'll be doing lots of stuff the plans are quite extensive, and changing all the time. Oh my God, we will hit that year very, very hard indeed."
However, so ideas have been set in stone yet:
"It's so far in the future, so it's only a set of notions,"
Matt Smith has previously stated that the 50th Anniversary will be an "event" and that he wants a multi-Doctor story.

MATT SMITH TEASES 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Matt Smith has teased that the 50th Anniversary in 2013 will be an "event".

Speaking to SFX he said:
"I think we've got to do something that is an event. We've got to create an event, absolutely. That's certainly the plan. I don't know what that is. The powers that be upstairs will decide that. But I'm hoping we can definitely make it something unique."
He also backed up his recent claims that he wants a multi-Doctor story for the anniversary, saying:
"That's what [an anniversary] is about. It's about creating an event for everyone who's been involved with Who, the fans included, and just going, 'Hey, look at this thing we've all been following for 50 years'."
With 2013 still 2 years away, there is a lot of talk around the anniversary at the moment!



MATT SMITH WANTS MULTI-DOCTOR STORY

Matt Smith has said that he wants to current Doctor to star along-side past Doctor's for the 50th anniversary in 2013.

Recently, John Barrowman and David Tennant have expressed their interest in returning to the show for 2013, but Christopher Eccelston has expressed the total opposite saying he wouldn't "bath in the same river twice".

Matt smith said:
"That's still over a year away but I'd love for it to happen, how amazing would it be to see Tom Baker [back as the Fourth Doctor]? Can you imagine just seeing him back in the scarf, man? That would be amazing.
Paul McGann is a great actor, man, and a great Doctor. I say bring back Chris [Eccleston] and Dave [Tennant], too! How many Doctors can we get into one story? Imagine if there were five or six of us in one ep and we could all just look at each other and judge each other."
In the past, multi-Doctor story have marked the show's big birthday's, with The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors and The Two Doctors.

BARROWMAN WANTS 50th ANNIVERSARY ROLE

John Barrowman has revealed that he would love for Captain Jack to be part of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary in 2013.

During the Torchwood Comic-Con panel, he said he would love to appear along-side Matt Smith for the big 50.
"Torchwood and Captain Jack were born from the mother ship, which I always called and referenced as Doctor Who," he said. "I think it would be an interesting thing. I would love to do it.

"If Matt was welcome to it, because he is The Doctor now, I think it would be great. I think it would be a different kind of dynamic there with Jack and The Doctor. So, yes, I'm totally up for it."
John Barrowman has appeared many times in Doctor Who over the years, but he has yet to appear along-side Matt Smith.
"I think it would be disappointing for the 50th anniversary not to have a character like Jack in that show," he said. "Russell thinks it would be a good idea, I've spoken to Steven about it. I love playing Jack, whether with Torchwood or making an appearance on Doctor Who, It's the best coat I could put on every morning.

"It was a dream job for me and [Torchwood co-star] Eve [Myles] and then when they said they wanted to do a spin off show, it was just like being handed our dream job on a platter. We never ever thought we'd be sitting here among people like you. "

MOFFAT TEASES 50TH ANNIVERSARY PLANS

When asked by a fan at the New York series 6 screening if the production team have any plans for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who yet, Steven Moffat replied “Yeah. We’ll do something big, or something more?” 

Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy have previously come forward with the idea of starring in a multi Doctor story to celebrate the 50th anniversary in 2013. Would you like this to happen? Tell us in the comments below!
