TOP 5 BIGGEST TARDIS BASE STORIES OF 2011

So that's it. These are officially the last days of 2011, and what a cracking year it's been! We've had the return Torchwood Miracle Day splitting opinion, we've had Series 6 of Doctor Who literally split down the middle and we've had a lot of news filling the gaps in between.

We couldn't say goodbye to 2011 without looking back at Tardis Base's top 5 news stories of 2011. These are the 5 stories that got the most traffic throughout 2011 and spread across the Internet, some of them putting us at the very top of the Google search!

# 5 - BBC TORCHWOOD MIRACLE DAY GAY COMPLAINTS

With 2011 came the new series of Torchwood, and a whole lot of controversy. Back in August we reported that the BBC was receiving many complaints that Torchwood Miracle Day was just too gay. Parents were outraged that a BBC One show was showing such graphic scenes of a sexual nature, but the BBC responded by saying "In post-watershed content, we must be able to justify the frank and realistic portrayal of sex and the exploration of themes and issues which some people might find offensive". What were people expecting? This is Torchwood.

A cool little fact about this story is that if you type in "Miracle Day Gay" to Google, this is the first story that comes up!

In September we reported the official Synopsis for The Wedding of River Song. This was the synopsis we had all been waiting for! The first one-part finale in Doctor Who since it's 2005 revival, and a lot of answers were promised. The synopsis, which read: "As the Doctor makes his final journey to the shores of Lake Silencio in Utah, he knows only one thing can keep the universe safe – his own death – in the concluding episode of this series of the time-travelling drama. But has he reckoned without the love of a good woman?" ranked up so many views, that it made it onto this list!

"Who is River Song?" is one of the most asked questions in Doctor Who since we first saw her way back in 2008. In April this year we posted a very spoiler filled post explaining exactly who she was from a filming report. Guess what? It all turned out to be 100% true, months before the finale even aired! The scene we reported on was the final scene in The Wedding Of River Song between Amy and River in the garden, explaining that the Doctor wasn't dead, that River Song was his wife, and that Amy killed Madame Kovarian. There's still many questions to be answered about River, but at least we got there first with some of them.

In September we were one of the first Doctor Who news sites to report that there might be more Torchwood for 2012. At the end of the last episode of Miracle Day in Australia, a sign popped up saying “Jack be will back in 2012”. It turned out it was just repeats of Torchwood from the beginning, but we are rather proud to say that we helped started a huge online speculation that sent a lot of traffic our way calling us 'the source'. In fact, apart from the odd week, since September this was been the biggest post of the week every week since! Us Whovians sure do like to speculate.

Here's an interesting fact about this post, it has more Facebook likes than any other post on Tardis Base!

The shock death of Elisabeth Sladen turned out to be the biggest stories of year, not just in the world of Doctor Who, so it's no surprise it's our biggest story. In April, we reported that the legend Elisabeth Sladen has passed away at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer. The news that shook the entire fandom on the 19th April is still shaking it today. It's been 8 months since it happened and it still doesn't feel quite real yet.

Elisabeth Sladen, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

That's it, those are our top 5 stories! Do you remember them? Here's to 2012, getting you the news first, and more big stories.
