Torchwood: "Exodus Code" Synopsis

The synopsis and release date has been revealed for "Exodus Code", a brand new Torchwood novel written by John Barrowman himself, along with his sister Carole E. Barrowman. It takes place after Miracle Day, see more below:
It starts with a series of unexplained events. Earth tremors across the globe. People being driven insane by their heightened and scrambled senses. And the world is starting to notice - the number one Twitter trend is #TheLoco. Governments and scientists are bewildered and silent. The world needs Torchwood, but there's not much of Torchwood left. Captain Jack has tracked the problem to its source: a village in Peru, where he's uncovered evidence of alien involvement. Back in Cardiff, Gwen Cooper has discovered something lurking inside the Torchwood software - something alien and somehow connected to Jack. If the world is to be restored, she has to warn him - but she's quickly becoming a victim of the madness, too!
Torchwood: Exodus Code will be released on November 6th 2012.

Captain Jack Harkness is in need of a holiday. He wants to get away from Torchwood, away from the human race - and where better to get completely away from it all than Cotter Paluni's World, a planet surrounded by deadly scarlet lightning and cut off from the entire universe? But there are some shocks in store for Jack: the 'Devil's World' might be completely isolated and inaccessible, but its inhabitants worship Torchwood. And before he can find out why, or how this is even possible, he finds himself arrested for murder. It looks as if someone on the planet knows who Jack is - and they're out to get him...

This thrilling story is set after the conclusion of the most recent TV series, Miracle Day, and finds Sgt Andy dealing with a bizarre double shooting and a deadly alien virus.

When Yasmin finds a jewelled egg in her grandfather’s shed, her first thought is to sell it. Unfortunately, the object is no valuable FabergĂ© antique, but a dangerous weapon from another planet. Worse still, the buyer she finds online is a Russian secret agent working for the Committee for Extraterrestrial Research, who promptly swipes it, kills her brother Sayed and lands her in hospital.

When Sgt Andy Davidson realises that he’s not dealing with an ordinary double shooting, he calls Gwen Cooper, who breaks the bad news about the egg and its deadly contents. With no Torchwood to help, and Gwen in America, it’s up to Andy and Yasmin to follow the trail of the ‘Shiva virus’ – all the way from Cardiff to the British Museum...

The synopsis for the new audio exclusive Torchwood story "Army of One" is now available and reveals that the adventure takes place after "Miracle Day", becoming the first spin-off product of the show to venture forward with the story of Torchwood. Read the synopsis for "Army of One" below:

Kai Owen reads this exclusive audio adventure set after the conclusion of ‘Miracle Day’, featuring Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams.

Washington D.C., post-Miracle. The city has been hit by a spate of very unusual serial killings. The victims are different ages and genders and the locations vary, but each body has one thing in common – it has been reduced to a dried-up, dessicated husk.

Special Agent Lucas Avery has dealt with some tricky puzzles in his time, but this is stranger than anything he’s ever encountered. His one lead is a pair of names: ‘Gwen’ and ‘Rhys’...

For Gwen Cooper and Rhys Williams, still recovering from the recent, traumatic events that shook the world, life is about to get difficult and dangerous again. For it’s not just Homeland Security on their trail, but something else – something alien, terrifying and deadly...
Army of One has a running time of 1 hour and 10 minutes and will be released on CD and download on March 8th. Pre-order it from Amazon or AudioGo.

Eve Myles: "Nothing’s Going to Happen in 2012"

Eve Myles was interviewed by CultBox.co.uk regarding the future of Torchwood, and finally we have word on what's going down with Torchwood in 2012. And that is nothing. Eve remains hopeful for some sort of conclusion to Torchwood: "Who knows what will happen in 2013. Maybe a movie, to kinda draw a line under it." See an extract from the interview below:
What’s the latest you’ve heard on the future of Torchwood?

"As far as I know at the moment, everything’s still very much on hold. Russell [T Davies] has things happening in his personal life.

"John [Barrowman] is very much on the same page as me, in that if and when they need us, they can just pick the phone up and we will be there before they’ve even put the phone down, because it’s something we love doing.

"Nothing’s going to happen in 2012, I know that much for sure. But who knows what will happen in 2013. Maybe a movie, to kinda draw a line under it.

"That’s the thing about Torchwood, every series we’ve changed our format. We’ve always had a gap in between, so fingers crossed, because we’ve got such an outstanding loyal fan base. They deserve Torchwood to go ahead with something else to draw a line under it, for the fans to have a bit of closure.

With the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who coming up next year, would you be up for returning as Gwen for that?

"Um, I said something at one of these conventions and the press kinda jumped on it: “EVE MYLES THINKS BEING INVOLVED IN THE 50TH ANNINVERSARY OF DOCTOR WHO IS INAPPROPRIATE.”

"Now, this has come across wrong and I want to get this out that I didn’t mean it like that! What I meant was that the direction we were taking with Torchwood was very violent kind of storylines. The characters were going through certain narratives that are pretty hefty and adult. What I meant was that it’s difficult for a character to do those kind of scenes then do Doctor Who, which my niece and my nephews watch. And I would never let them watch Torchwood!

"It’s a difficult crossover. It works with Captain Jack because John does it beautifully. If I was asked it would be an absolute honour to be involved with something as huge as Doctor Who again.

"We were born from Doctor Who and we will be eternally grateful to the mothership. And I always say that and that never gets printed! If I was involved, I’m sure it’d be a wonderful thing but there’s been no phone call or no talk about it so I doubt very much that I will be involved, but I’d be honoured."
Eve Myles also talks about her upcoming role in the play "All New People" here. The play opens in London on February 22nd.

JOHN BARROWMAN CO-WRITES NEW CHILDREN'S NOVEL

John Barrowman has joined with his sister, Carole E. Barrowman once again to co-write a new children's novel.  The Novel, Hollow Earth, which is non-Who/Torchwood related is about telepathic twins who have the ability to bring art to life.
Hollow Earth
John and Carol E. Barrowman
R.R.P.: £6.99
Released: 2nd February 2012

Lots of twins have a special connection - being able to finish each other's sentences; sensing what the other is thinking; perhaps even knowing when the other is in trouble or in pain - but for 12-year-old twins, Matt and Emily Calder, the connection is beyond special. Together, the twins have extraordinary powers. They are able to bring art to life, or enter paintings at will. Their abilities are sought by villains trying to access the terrors of Hollow Earth - a place where all the demons, devils and creatures ever imagined lie trapped for eternity. The twins flee with their mother to the security of an island, off the west coast of Scotland, where their grandfather has certain protective powers of his own. But too much is at stake, and the twins aren't safe there either. The villains will stop at nothing to find Hollow Earth and harness the powers within...
Hollow Earth is available for pre-order now, and will be released on 2nd February 2012.

RUSSELL T DAVIES PUTS CAREER ON HOLD

russell t davies

Russell T Davies has spoken to the Pink News to reveal that he has moved back to the UK after finding out that his boyfriend has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

“There we were, living in LA and loving it, I had shows lined up and everything when Andrew started to get these headaches. We wondered if it was the change of city, the water or the fact he wasn’t working. It was getting bad so we decided he’d see a doctor when we came back in August for a three-week holiday. He went to the doctor, who sent him for a scan. When we got the results they told us he had cancer of the brain. They needed to operate straight away. Three days later he was having surgery. That’s where we are now. He’s had thirty consecutive days of radiotherapy and chemotherapy and we’ve got six months of chemotherapy ahead of us. He’s not allowed to drive. The lives we had in LA just sort of closed down overnight. All of my stuff, my computers and clothes were over there. We had to have everything shipped over here in crates. We were lucky we never sold our house in Manchester. Lo and behold we’re now a ten minute drive from Europe’s best cancer hospital.”

Russell then goes on to reveal he is taking a break from writing and producing shows, this of course sadly including Torchwood.

“I’ve stopped work, I haven’t worked since August. We’re lucky we’ve got enough money in the bank that, if need be, I can take the whole of next year off. I’ve always been a good saver. I’ve always had that mentality that you’ve got to be ready for a rainy day. People keep asking me if I’ve really stopped working. I used to work so hard you see, they think I must be secretly working on something, but I’m not. It was a simple decision: he’s more important. Who gives a f**k about writing scripts if I can stay at home with him and make his day a bit happier?  I don’t know when I’ll start work again. I’ve got see how Andrew’s health goes.”

Russell’s hiatus also casts doubt on a future series of Torchwood. He tells me that Miracle Day, the show’s fourth season, didn’t do brilliantly. Reviews were mixed. With the head of American-partner Starz on record as saying he’d only bring back Torchwood if Russell was part of it, the outlook for the series is uncertain at best.

TARDIS Base gives our best wishes to Russell and Andrew.

JOHN BARROWMAN TALKS TORCHWOOD & DOCTOR WHO

John Barrowman appeared on ITV talk show ‘This Morning’ earlier today and during his interview he talked about Torchwood, stating that he wants it to return but it's still in "limbo", whilst also touching on the subject of the Doctor Who 50th anniversary.

When asked if he would appear, he replied:
“I would love to. I think that Captain Jack is such a big part of the new realm of Doctor Who that it would be a travesty if he wasn’t involved in some way.”

TORCHWOOD ‘MIGHT COME BACK AS A SPECIAL’

image

Eve Myles and Kai Owen spoke to the Independent to talk about what’s next for Torchwood, and the possibility of Torchwood crossing over into Doctor Who for the 50th anniversary in 2013. See what they had to say below:

What’s next for ‘Torchwood’?

KO: Who knows? It would be different. It might come back as a special.

EM: I think the next step would be a movie. We change every year. We have to change every year to keep it fresh and different and keep people interested because by the third, fourth, fifth series of ‘Lost’, ‘Sopranos’ however good they are, they’re extraordinary, but you know what you’re going to get. With ‘Torchwood’ we can live up to the name that you never know what you’re going to get.

KO: They can do whatever they want with the show.

EM: He [Russell T. Davies] amalgamated a wonderful kind of genre and it has been done before with ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. He amalgamated Sci-Fi with really strong domestic drama and you’ve got characters in there that are normal and ordinary dealing with extraordinary circumstances which people find fascinating. We had 5 million every week, watching it and dedicated fans, people who had never seen Sci-Fi in their life. My mum’s in her 60s, my father’s in his 60s, they’ve never watched ‘Star Trek’ and they just got it. They had people within it that they could connect with.

KO: Because it has that real heart in the middle of it that Russell writes, real people and the fantastical element of it all. People who have no interest in Sci-Fi will sit and watch and be glued to ‘Torchwood’.

EM: I feel very honoured to be a part of it and whatever happens in the future happens. But up to this point, I’m very honoured to have played Gwen Cooper and am very honoured to have been led by John Barrowman and Russell T. Davies and Julie Gardner.

KO: I completely second that. It’s the best job ever and if they wanted to do five more years of ‘Torchwood’ or ten more years of ‘Torchwood’ and they wanted me in as part of it, if I was lucky enough to be a part of it, I would do it every time.

In 2013 ‘Doctor Who’ will be celebrating its 50th anniversary, will ‘Torchwood’ be playing a part in it?

EM: I wouldn’t have thought so. We have lots of adult themes running in ‘Torchwood’ and I think it would be inappropriate for us to have anything to do with ‘Doctor Who’ because it’s predominantly a family programme. I think that where ‘Torchwood’ is, it deals with darker subjects and I think inter-mixing them, if they want to do that, then fine but I can tell you that I’m not involved in it – they won’t give me guns or a bazooka.
