“I don’t know if I could play him, Matt Smith plays Doctor Who and does a wonderful job. They don’t need me! I would never presume to jump into somebody else’s franchise, not at all.
"I've lived with pressure for so long. What's pressure? I don't know anymore! It's fine, it's good," he said, looking only at the positives. "It's such a wonderful character and such a wonderful world. It's exciting."

During an interview with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan on BBC Radio One the Doctor Who stars were asked by a listener about the news of a Doctor Who movie adaption being made by David Yates, to which Matt Smith responded: “I have no idea what it’ll be about, because we’re not really anything to do with it.” When asked if they think they will feature in it, the pair both said: “I doubt it.” Karen Gillan then went on to say: “There’s always rumours about a Doctor Who film. I remember them saying Johnny Depp was going to be the Doctor!”
Alex Kingston who plays River Song shared her opinion about the movie adaption in a recent interview on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, saying “I can’t believe they’re doing it. Who are they going to get to write it? Who’s any better than Steven Moffat or Russell T Davies? They’re the best.”
"We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena.
Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch. We want a British sensibility, but having said that, Steve Kloves wrote the Potter films and captured that British sensibility perfectly, so we are looking at American writers too"
