MERCHANDISE KEEPS THE DOCTOR ALIVE!

moffatSteven Moffat has revealed that a percentage of the money made from the sales of Doctor Who toys, DVDs and the Doctor Who Experience was "partly to raise money to make the show".

Each episode costs around £1million to make but the BBC, under pressure to cut costs, puts in only £700,000, leaving the remaining £300,000 to be found elsewhere, then raised from merchandising. Moffat added: "It isn't possible to give Doctor Who enough money. We could spend Avatar's budget."

Doctor Who returned this evening on BBC One which starred Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill and guest starring Alex Kingston.
