Rumours have appeared online claiming that David Tennant will play Thranduil the Elvenking in next year's Hobbit movie. He will join actors Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood. David Tennant quit the role of the Doctor last year after four years on the show. Part 1 of the Hobbit will be in cinemas in December 2012.
